Kathy Martin – President
Kathy believes in looking at the big picture. When we meet with a potential client, we look at their overall business – all aspects, not just advertising,” she explains. That helps us determine how best we can help a client. You can do all the advertising you want, but if your core business isn’t doing well, your advertising won’t be successful.”
This business acumen comes after nearly 20 years of operating The Martin Firm (founded by Kathy in 1988) and 18 years previous experience with US West and AT&T, where she was involved in marketing, advertising, public relations and sales, as well as overall business management. During her tenure at AT&T, as the area vice president of marketing, Kathy was responsible for creative and promotional work, most notably the Reach Out and Touch Someone” campaign.
The years spent at AT&T provided Kathy with the skills and contacts which have become invaluable to The Martin Firm and its clients.
Kathy provides creative solutions for clients, based on her experience and knowledge in such areas as strategic planning, media buying, budgeting and market research.
Kathy is very active in the local community and has served on the boards of numerous organizations, including TACID (Tacoma Area Coalition for Individuals with Disabilities), the Tacoma Club, YMCA, Boy Scouts of America, Corporate Council for the Arts, Goodwill Industries, New Tacoma Cemeteries and Funeral Home, Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club of Tacoma #8.
An active Rotarian, Kathy is a past president of Rotary Club of Tacoma #8, one of the largest clubs in the world. She has been honored as Rotarian of the Year and selected as one of 90 Rotarians out of 1.3 million to receive the distinguished Humanitarian Award for Rotary International.
Karen Taylor – Marketing Communications Director
As marketing communications director, Karen works one-on-one with clients to develop strategic marketing and public relations plans, coordinate special events and offer copywriting services for a broad spectrum of advertising and collateral materials.
With over 16 years in the industry, Karen’s experience includes strategic planning, budgeting, market research, advertising and public relations. Prior to joining TMF, she was the marketing director for a regional medical center, handling the entirety of the facility’s internal and external communications. Karen received her degree in public relations/communications from Pacific Lutheran University.

Kate Porter – Creative Director
As well as graphic design, Kate brings her skills as web designer to The Martin Firm. Most recently updating the Friends of American Lake Veterans Golf Course website, Kate’s past work includes print and web work for Ebbets Field Flannels, Savory Moments gourmet foods, Altrusa International, Peninsulsa Truck Lines and the Federal Way Community Center.
Bettie Dunn – Operations Manager
Bettie handles all of The Martin Firm office operations, accounts payable and receivables, precise client billings, account services follow through, coordination and all client record, tear sheet, client archives and current material files. She has over 30 years experience in office management and orchestrating client needs. Bettie handles everything from marketing research to client premise meetings.
